Well, I'm sure someone conservative will replace her - which is to be expected given that they have a majority in the government now - but I hope it is with a moderate (read as: rational) conservative.
I'm not implying that most conservatives are irrational, just saying that it is always good to have a rational person in power.
I am not well versed in Justice O'Connor's opinions. Today I am happy to celebrate her as a patriot who served long in a difficult position and leave later thoughts and wiser minds to posit how we may improve.
The confirmation battles will not be pleasant. I do not look forward to the fear-mongering that will overshadow hopes of nonpartisan attempts at rational, prudent decision-making. Sooner or later, we should remember we're preserving an instituion for future generations, not a President or Senator's constitutional preference - that is impossible. To much spirit to purchase the latter, on either side, will only waste political capital and aggravate our disunity.
Well put Andrew. This is also a chance for President Bush to restore some credibility to the most criminal and disfunctional regime since the Nixon regime.
I'm a Roman Catholic, Canadian lawyer who recently graduated from University of Notre Dame Law School. About ten years ago I was won over by the love of Jesus Christ in His Holy, Apostolic Church. This blog is dedicated to the quest of integrating Catholicism and the legal profession. It explores the meaning of "law as a vocation" and orthodoxy in the Catholic Church. Actually, that sounds a little too noble - it's just a place to post all of my thoughts and concerns for the day, rather than sending a million links to my friends and family. Enjoy!

Emilio Garza should get the nod. He's a rock star.
